Why different manufacturer's lights are so similar?
There are quite a few aftermarket lighting manufacturers around the world. Some of their products look extremely similar. Have you ever wondered why? In this post, we are answering this question for you.
IT'S IN THE CASE
Really, it is. To make a tail light, for example, for NA Miata/MX-5, you need a NA Miata/MX-5 tail light case or housing. Housings can be extremely expensive to manufacture, ranging from $40k per pair of inner housings and lenses. Since most of the aftermarket manufacturers are small companies, they have to outsource the housings. The easiest way to find them is to use aftermarket lights, which are often incandescent, not very fascinating, and cheap.
NA MIATA TAIL LIGHTS
These are "Altezza" style aftermarket NA Miata/MX-5 tail lights. They are just a simple variation of the OEM Miata/MX-5 tail lights for the consumer while for the aftermarket light manufacturer - they are the foundation. Having this foundation developers can create light modules that can be put inside such as infinity mirrors, LED panels, etc. 99% of aftermarket NA Miata/MX-5 tail lights are made using these housings.
INFINITY MIRROR NA MIATA TAIL LIGHTS
What we at Emiit Autogarage have done is took that foundation and modernized it while keeping 90s design features alive. Nothing beats R32 or R33 skyline tail light rings. So we made the parking/brake LED light rings modernizing them with an infinity mirror inside and our exclusive glowing logo. Improved brightness is a must for a 90s Japanese car so we also did that. Car manufacturers did not have exceptional light diffusers in the 90s that we have now, so we used them to make the light in the ring 100% uniform.
We decided to borrow some design elements from the NB Miata - the half-moon shape to design an LED indicator. If the whole shape was lit - the indicator would dominate the tail light so we made just the contour emit the light. Once again, the light is fully diffused and as bright as a new car's indicators. As a modern indicator light should - we made it sequential.
Reverse light is very simple - it is completely white and extremely bright - for better visibility. It also has a light diffuser that spreads the light around the car.
